We’re More Like Friends Than Mother and Daughter

1 New Yorker + 1 Southern Bell = A sassy duo with a lot of charm

A New Yorker fell in love with a guy she met in South Carolina and they had a little girl. Now, more than 33 years later, that little girl has grown into that woman’s best friend.

Hi! I’m Latesha, and this is my Mom, Marilyn. We’re world travelers and Atlanta-based lifestyle bloggers. We didn’t both start our lives with a love of travel. In fact, my Mom didn’t take her first flight until 1996 or 1997 and none after that until maybe 2009 or 2010. I, on the other hand, had always been terrified of flying even though I flew all over for work.

Travel History

It wasn’t until recently that I was able to convince my Mom to travel more often. For most of my life she never left town without my Dad or myself, and it was NEVER by plane. In 2015 we took our first international trip as a family to Japan. Once she realized she could survive a long flight, she was finally ready to travel. To date, we’ve been to:

I’ve visited 9 out of 217 countries. That is 4.15%.

2 Travel Lovers Were Born

It wasn’t until 2015 that we took our first real international trip to Japan with my Dad. From that point on, we made a point to go on trips together. When I had work trips to Colorado and Chicago, I flew Mom out to be with me. We made a habit of going before my work trip or staying in town after my work trips ended. Soon we didn’t need work as an excuse to travel, we just wanted to travel. Chicago has been one of the main places we’ve visited together, to date or favorite time was when we kayaked at night on the Chicago River. We, of course, like to make it up to New York, because New York is life.

Why We’re Doing This Blog

So here we are, it’s 2019 and since 2010 we’ve been out of the country to places like Jamaica, Bahamas, Dubai, Bali, Mexico, Korea, Japan, and Canada. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to go to Paris, so when I started contemplating a trip alone, my Mom said she’d be down to go with me. She had booked her Dubai trip through a travel company, so I looked into a few myself and found the perfect deal for a trip called Taste of Europe where we’ll spend 2 days each in Paris, Rome, and London. Talk about a dream come true. It’s also why the idea of this blog was born!

In looking back through my photo albums, I found so many fun excursions we’ve shared together and through our travels together, as mother and daughter. We knew it would be something fun to share.

So here we are, living in Atlanta, and trying to make the best of life. There is so much to do and try in Atlanta, and we want to share that with you. We pretty much do everything together which is why my Mom has braved things she never would have tried 5 years ago. Now between the two of us, we’ve been indoor skydiving, camel riding, elephant riding, sand dune hopping, jet skying in oceans, and kayaking…and honestly, we feel unstoppable when we’re together and because of the encouragement we give one another.

One of the things we like to do together is change our hair. We’ve had the wave nouveau, a relaxer, and now we’re on a natural hair journey. We have a love/hate relationship with shopping with one another because we typically encourage one another to overspend.

So what is this all about? Well, we want to share our experiences living in Atlanta and on our travels both around the United States and around the world. We truly are like best friends, but at the end of the day, we’re still mother and daughter. We fight, we laugh, we stalk each other, and most of all we love to gossip.

Join us for funny videos, a peek at all the great things Atlanta and Georgia as a state has to offer, exciting trips, natural hair successes, and product failures, as well as for some of the best shopping deals we’ve found.
